Environmentalists will not stop the gas pipeline. Their main focus in Alaska is to stop development in ANWR (Arctic National Wildelife Refuge), but the 35 tcf of proven reserves is outside of ANWR. The real issue for the pipeline is economics, since there are dozens of large stranded gas fields around the world that are competing for funding.

BTW, the USGS estimates that we also have up to 500 tcf locked in methane hydrates across the onshore Alaska North Slope...
