If you sent 20 million allied troops it really would piss of the locals and other radical islamofascists. Then you would be conqueror. The current strategy of “As the Iraqis stand up we will stand down” appears IMHO to be the best course with the greatest chance of success. Gary: See “Viet Namization”. Hopefully, the Iraqi people will have more resolve to secure and defend their own country than the South Viet Namese people did. Peter: This is currently preceding the opposite of the Vietnam War. In that one, we came in to relieve the French after they ran up the white flag. We started with a few advisors, then thousands of advisors, then tens of thousands of troops… In this we came in with hundreds of thousands of troops to liberate a people from the yoke of tyranny. We disbanded the immoral corrupt army of the oppressors. We then attempted to start over and train police and an army while the disaffected linked with foreign fighters to terrorize the recruits and the population. Also, and this is the big one. There is no major foreign sponsor. Without US support the Mujahadeen would have failed. Without Chinese support the North Vietnamese would not have lasted long enough to allow Kerry and the anti Americans to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Gary: Well said.
