After wars that cause great loss of life mostly in the male population, women produce more sons

In the last year or so there was a scientific paper documenting this in Europe. I thought they claimed it was the first such documented evidence.

Good news for short dudes everywhere. Plus short dudes live longer than tall ones. Unfortunately I'm in the tall category, so make up for live expectancy by being vegetarian :)

The invention of gunfire similarly changed the width of people - skinny ones would be missed, while bigger blokes, who had historically been excellent in wars because of bulk, were suddenly easy targets.

With rows of soldiers lined up in rank and file, a volley of shot would preferentially weed out the big ones.

< after WW1, the french lost 2 inches in hight because of trench warfare. Prior to WW1 they had been europes tallest people and the tall were the most vulnerable. >

Surely the tall ones crouched down.
