Gas surcharges hurt the working poor who can least afford it

Improving mass transit would help those that live in cities. Set up means testing for gas stamps for those in rural areas that have no other means for transportation.

When you are dealing with a country as large as ours, any kind of program is going to cause some dislocation.

But, we can't go on depending on ME oil. We have to make the switch to alternative fuel sometime in the future. Why not now. Be ahead of the curve. Lead the world into the future with less if not, no dependence on ME oil. At the same time, helping to clean up the environment. On this we will have no choice later on. The sooner, the better.
