the term IED is a real misnomer - most of these devices are heavy artillery shells and 500 lb bombs stolen from the ammo dumps when the war began (huge phuck up to let that happen)..the only thing that is improvised is that they can be detonated by a pressure release devices (old technology) or a micro wave device which can be set off by a cell phone. An artillery shell or 500 lb. bomb can disintegrate a tank let alone an armor plated humvees. Our guys are sitting ducks. The insurgents watch where our patrol patterns are and then plant the devices.
