Hell, I don't see something positive on that front and I'll consider leaving, too., despite the fact that I think that the Coast 2050 plan is just as necessary as the levees, and ultimately more so. Yes, reconstruction is taking place at a snail's pace, but it is a big job, and FEMA and the COE are totally incompetent. Bush hasn't even bothered to search for another crony to replace Brown, his previous and incompetent crony. It is shameful that the feds, who are about 75% responsible for the failure of the levees and for about 50% of the immediate post-Katrina incompetence, are not acting with dispatch. We are off the Administration's radar, and that is why we are making so much strident noise. This is the gaping hole in Levy's analysis It is also shameful to know that no other city in America would be treated like we have been treated without a huge public outcry. Secession is looking like a better and better option. At least we'd get invaded and the reconstruction work would begin in earnest. vbg. Perhaps if we withheld the litle tax revenue we contribute, things would be better. Perhaps a de facto secession, one in which we unilaterally raise port usage fees to the max, withhold income taxes, withhold other excise taxes, and raise the severance taxes on oil and gas, would get things done. Perhaps we should simply shut off natural gas this cold winter while it is at a sky high price. I really like that one. Freeze folks in NYC, Chicago, Philly, Denver, make them pay through the nose for heating. We would see things turn around pronto. We're not being treated like Americans, why should we act like we are?
