Gobble gobble!

How cool is that.

Saturday morning I got up early and drove upstate
to the Adirondacks. I had an itch that needed to be
scratched. Last time I was there is wasn't relaxing.
I needed to recharge.

Everything about the day was perfect. Amazing.
Incredible.

I had seen a real estate ad for some property that I
can't even come close to afford, but figured it was
good dream material so I went to look at it anyway.

The vacant land was about 30 acres and I wasn't too
sure of the boundaries. So I knocked on the door of
a home located next to it. Two retired folks who just
moved there from Brooklyn invited me into the warmth
of their passive solar home and told me about the
property boundaries and the surrounding area. Very
nice people.

So then I walked through the dusting of snow and
explored a bit. It was such a nice day with the sun
breaking through the clouds. I could see for miles
and miles. The mountains in the distance were amazing.

I saw plenty of tracks in the snow. One set belonged
to either a big dog or I began to wonder if it could
be a wolf...

I decided to walk on.

Eventually I got back to my truck and saw the couple
from Brooklyn walking the road. I rolled down my
window to thank them.

They said, "Hey you might want to look at the house
across the road. It is also for sale." The price
was 4 times that of the other property that I can't
afford. The house was old and tiny and nothing special.
However, just to be polite I put on an interested
face and listened to them.

Just then a man and a woman in their 70's rode up on
their quad ATV's. As luck had it, they were the owners.
My new friends from Brooklyn introduced me to them and
the old man said, "Common O'll show you the land."

Little wheels inside my brain said, "Hey, they are
offering you a free ride on their quad. Go!"

The man had his wife jump on the back with him and let
me ride her quad. They took me along some snowmobile
trails that run throughout the property. It ran for
miles and miles. I could not even figure how deep
into the forest we were. He took me up to the top
of two mountains (large large hills) and I could see
the high peaks region. Awesome!

I still could not believe I was out riding in the
middle of the Adirondacks having a great time as
they pointed out the boundaries of their eighty
acres. I just happened to be in the right place
at the right time...

We rode around for about an hour. He gave me the
history of the area where he's been a local yocal
for years and years.

Such nice people.

Then they gave me a tour of their home and detached
garage. Proudly displayed the new appliances and solid
maple kitchen cabinets. I felt guilty that I had no
intention to buy anything but it wasn't like they were
pushing it. Just sort of being friendly and their usual
good natured selves. We must have talked for another hour.

These were total strangers who I was hanging out with
like they were long time friends. It was too cool.

Eventually they told me that the man has cancer and
they moved to an assisted care apartment. It saddened
me. They dropped the price $30,000 while talking to me
even though I never even offered to buy it. I suppose
they feel like they are under pressure now to sell it
with the cancer clock ticking away like it is. But
still, I'm not even in the market for real estate nor
could I even come close to affording it. I just felt bad.

I told them that maybe I'll see if my brothers would want
to chip in on the property but know that none of us can
fund anything like this. We exchanged numbers and I said
I'd give them a call but know I'll probably never see my
new friends again.

But there is one special family that have added to my
Christmas Card list.

It was an amazing day.
