He proposes to reduce the number of villages from 66,000 to only 10,000, relocating 30 million Iranians. That is a preemptive response to the inevitable depopulation of rural Iran, in keeping with a totalitarian program for all aspects of Iranian society. As Amir Taheri wrote in Arab News on August 20, "He [Ahmadinejad] wants the state to play a central role in all aspects of people's lives and emphasizes the importance of central planning. The state would follow the citizens from birth to death, ensuring their health, education, well-being and leisure. It will guide them as to what to read and write and what 'cultural products' to consume so as not to be contaminated by Western ideas." Very interesting... I wonder how much "public support" he'll received from people who are very much WEDDED to their land and their families?? He's obviously concerned about people living in such numbers in a village because of the obvious poverty that results, but also the greater potential for a urban resistance movement erupting to challenge his rule. We'll see what kind of "willpower" he brings to his position before he snaps the patience of the average Iranian young adult.. Also, just a note.. I have to believe that part of his strategy is to somehow gain control over the Shi'a region of Iraq and claim the 80% of total Iraqi oil that exists there. Such a strategy of "reunifying" Shi'a under one government would result in regional war between Arabs and Persians. It might be what he's looking to achieve.. Hawk
