A stop loss is a market order. In a fast moving market that happens to overrun the stop point, yeah, it's lights-out baby and no telling where the exit gets executed.

But I suspect Ski knows this and plans accordingly.

frequent use of those words.."hard stop"...

Technical stops quite often seem to be targets meant to be "executed", that's true... -g. But for the most part I stick to very liquid issues, so, the "slippage" is usually not.. hmm... excessive.
