Tom Demark's work is fairly complicated but the crux of his research shows that by definition when a trend is fully embraced and well established it is nearing the point of exhaustion.

This is why you see mutual fund inflows at their highest after a big run just as the run is starting to reverse.

Demark attempts to identify the health of trends and forecast exhaustion and turning points.
