Don't get me wrong, the State folks were awful, too.

But neither Nagin nor Blanco, whom I despise, had anything, zip, zero, to do with the failure of the levees, which under the stress of a cat. 3 hurricane should not have failed.

If I had factual grounds to blame them for levee failure, I would not hesitate to do so. Their failures were post-Katrina.

The COE administers and supervises the federal money spent on levees. That money is by far the biggest fund for levee building and maintenance. The COE also reviews the designs.

If the levees had not failed, we would not be having this discussion. Since the COE funded the projects, reviewed the designs, supervised the construction, and was by federal law required to perform inspections of them, who do you think I and 99% of folks around here blame first and foremost?

The political game IMO is about the future, and this is where W is being incredibly hypocritical. If he had no intention of doing what he promised us in September, he should not have given that speech.

Like the "white flag" ad, the GOP is vulnerable in La. and Miss. to ads in which W's hypocritical words are brought back to the GOP's roost.

Powerful stuff around here.

I don't wish calamities on anyone, but if you live somewhere that is vulnerable, hope and pray that the feds don't come to "help" you out should you have the misfortune of going through one.
