Al, One of the key problems with religion...the spiritual interferes with the social of others and eventually becomes the political....

The vast majority of people in this world profess to some faith. Society, culture, and religion are intricately tied.

"Separation of church and state" is meant to protect religious freedom, not to impede upon it. Decisions have to be made when one's religion clashes with society (for example, pedophilia will still be illegal no matter what "religion" calls it OK), but those decisions should be up to the political process. Impeding that process in the name of "separation" is no different than imposing secularism upon the religious.
