I think it's all meant to be a distraction from larger and more important issues, like torture. I was commenting to someone at lunch yesterday that it seems to me that the news these days is all distraction. Maybe I'm imagining it but I remember the news as telling us daily what legislation was being developed in congress, what was discussed at the UN, and what policy conferences were held. I'm finding now that there are laws being passed that I never knew about. Meanwhile we get Christmas wars and missing colleens on the news.
