"The problem now is various polls of Iraqis showing that many of them view us not very kindly, and would like to see us go."

Saddam was a thug, abusing his position of power over the Iraqi people.

It would be unrealistic to expect a self governing people to want any outside force to stick around once the abusive regime was dismantled; or to view an invading force that represents another more dominant culture in any manner except cautious disregard.

It is realistic to expect them to want to see us go as soon as we are no longer needed for their security; and it would be gracious of us to do so without resentment.
