You don't have to search too far to find Christian folk who will tell you point blank that "tax cuts for the rich" are immoral - based on their interpretation of the Gospel.

I don't hear that. I don't think it's that direct. As I said, one's religion informs one's politics just as it informs everything else. But it's indirect. It goes through a secular filter first. Not that it isn't direct for some, which is why I said "generally." But you don't hear much about Liberation Theology in US politics. That's mostly a third world thing, I think.

But what do I know about Christians? I'm an outsider looking on.

Tax Rates:

I believe the Bush tax cuts have proven hugely successful at generating economic activity and therefore grater well being of the population as a whole. The current problem we have is one of spending not taxing. Bush has proven an utter failure in controlling spending. To say tax cuts are immoral is foolish self indulgence. I have seen nothing in my 50 + years that can deny that lower taxes generate more economic activity and tax revenue and hence more resources for the public good.

Where people go wrong is to think they can raise taxes without negatively impacting economic activity. If taxes were to be raised we would have to get serious about removing other economic barriers to entrepenurial success - eg Tort reform.

Being Christian does not mean being stupid and simplistic about how to best meet the needs of our fellow citizens.
