Death Penalty opponents have invented a number of myths that Big Media helps them perpetrate.

Myth # 1: The Death Penalty is not a deterrent.
Myth # 2: Life in prison is a worse punishment than death.
Myth # 3: Innocent people are known to have been executed.
Myth # 4: Being on Death Row means you'll be executed.
Myth # 5: The monetary cost of execution is several times that of life without parole.
Myth # 6: All prisoners released from Death Row didn't commit the murder.

In the last 30 years, there has not been a single case where an executed person was later proved innocent. Having read most of the reputable studies on the DP, I am open to new information. Bring it on if you have it.

The rightwing zeal to kill Williams is disgusting.
I don't know how guilty he is, and neither do you, but even if he is guilty, a man who's done enough to get nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize certainly deserves a chance to make a positive difference. If Williams truly wants to be the guru for keeping kids out of gangs, then he should be spared for the good of the community. That could save a lot of lives.

I'm a moderate on this issue, but when I see rightwingers howling for blood, it reminds of me of lynch gangs. Why would anyone lust to kill Williams? It's un-Christian, disturbing as well and if Williams were white and an evangelical Christian abortion clinic bomber who'd reformed, one wonders if your response would be the opposite of what it is now, pleading for clemency just because you're the same political types. Remember, this isn't Charlie Manson we're talking about it's a guy who is nominatd for the #1 humanity prize on earth. He must have done something genuinely and deeply righteous. Nobel scrutinizes their nominees very carefully.
