As I understood the point that Krugman was trying to make and the point of the Kristol quote is that he was a supply sider who thought it would generate revenue. Only later did he come to appreciate, or so the quote went, that it would reduce government. The quote didn't say whether Kristol saw that as a virtue.

I just don't recall either: that he was a supply sider or that he was a small government guy. I had him pegged as a social liberal (including support for the safety net of welfare capitalism), defense conservative (spend more money here), economic conservative (defense of capitalism).

It's a very small point, not worth taking down too many turns of the thread.
