The BBC controls the European media pulse, not Murdock. But the Beeb has been hijacked by Stalinists and terrorist sympathizers. That's probably why the average European is so hateful and ignorant.

"is he a leftie in your opinion? " Rupert Murdoch is very complementary towards communist China. Communism is considered to be leftist. Therefore Rupert Murdoch is leftist. It is way more complex than that. News Corp provides some balance to La Monde, Der Spiegle, the Guardian and other ultra leftist rags. When you compare a single center right news source to a horde of leftist ones, which appears to be out of step? In the US, Fox New is the closest national news media to the center. It ir right of center, but the others are further left than they are right. Their market share reflects this. Before you throw the Murdoch out with the bath water, you might ask yourself how his publishing empire could have gotten so large if he was out of the mainstream while other outlets have been shrinking.
