El Mat - I would prefer the police did not beat the protestors. While globalization and free trade have large aggregate benefits for the world, there are people indirectly hurt by free trade, often because their local elites stick all the adjustment costs and burdens on a few groups, while moving their own funds overseas.

Some adjustment compensation would be reasonable. Heck, I might even go along with some of France and Canada's cultural preservation laws, considering most of what comes out of Hollywood today.

I'm becoming a soft headed liberal....
