OK, so let's say the Iraq vote goes well and Bush claims the Iraqi military/police are trained and ready. Fine, best reason in the world to start bringing our troops home. 20,000 every month or two until there's nothing but an emergency force like Korea. Retreat and declare victory, just as we did in Vietnam, but hopefully in not as messy a fashion.

Long documentaries on MSNBC and CNN about Iraq (very up to the minute stuff) convinced me that though our troops are remarkable, they should not be being used for neighborhood patrols, and should be limited to advisory, support, logistics and backup roles. About time the Iraqis settled their own disputes. A lot of the violence is happening simply because we are there.
