Currently the best deterent to violent crime is conceal and carry laws. They remove the government monopoly on law enforcement-making it more effective. And most of the wise-assed bastards who would take a gun out in the street and pick on your wife or daughter find something else to do. Crimes like car theft tend to rise in conceal and carry environments, but those crimes are also easier to fight with expanding technology. State local and federal law enforcement should not just tolerate c & c, but encourage and promote it...

Frequent and RAPID executions of murderers deters future murderers. "Tookie" took 20 years to put to death, so the deterrent effect is limited. But "Tookie" hisseff is definitely off the crime grid-and that is, at least, something...
