Ok, then let's substitute 'mistreatment' for torture. Either way, we tumble from the moral high ground.

Yes, others will mistreat our prisoners. And, although a lot of experts disagree (McCain qualifies as an expert), it may extract some information (although sorting the useful from the useless is daunting). But, is it worth the cost? Now, when we point the human rights finger at, say, China, the international community whispers of Abu Ghraib, secret CIA prisons, and torture memos - even though China's violations are a million times worse.

Our democratic righteousness has been severely damaged.
