"If you're that sold on higher taxes may I suggest Europe "

Actually in many ways they have much higher quality of life than we do in the states. Encouraging growth via illegals from third world countries, tax cuts for the super rich and debt slavery for young Americans spending and living way beyond their means so we can grow our way out of the debt load due to wars, pork spending and natural disasters is a ticket to social unrest and pure chaos this next downturn.

It does not matter one bit HOW poorly the money is used -- if you want to impact government spending please do as you like on the spending side. The simple fact of taxes is inescapable -- when the money is spent and you borrow it instead of paying the bill via taxes, you are a FREELOADER who is sending the bill to future generations.
