You see it depends on how difficult life becomes, and that is what makes preparation so challenging. There is a span of possibilities from A to Z, as Rainwater said, and guessing where we life takes us is the tricky part. Certainly, potable water is necessary for life and could be scarce in some parts of the country.

I've ordered a book from our local library, Strategic relocation : North American guide to safe places / by Joel M. Skousen. It was published in 1998 so it's rather dated, but should be an interesting read.

Lately, I consider the perfect storm of a pandemic of some kind and peak oil. How would we handle that combination?

Some things were inconceivable before Katrina. That experience was a useful lesson.
