I think a lot of the editorializing in the article you linked was extraneous. The local color is what appealed to me. That seems quite an exotic world from where I sit. I would probably feel estranged in an Australian surfer culture, too. Which reminds me, I've been following some of the blog chatter on feminists and anti-feminists. Even contributed a bit or two. You might find it interesting. Here's the most recent thing I read--a place to start and see if you're interested. Cathy Young was called anti-feminist, which would make me anti-feminist, too. Much activity ensued. It boils down to a tug of war between the equity feminists and the gender feminists. cathyyoung.blogspot.com
