This obviously will include traditional advertising, but I'd also expect it to eventually include various product placements (“For winning today’s Real World/Road Rules Gauntlet, you win an Amp’d Mobile handset…”).

This is a great idea. A big problem for the smaller MVNO's is going to be advertising/branding. The deal with MTV looks like a very efficient way to get their brand established in their target markets. They are going to need the savings because their upfront costs are going to be substantial with the subsidies they are providing.

The way I figure it, even if most of these MVNO's arent successful, they will substantially ratchet up the competitve pressure in the US. In addition to increased subsidies/lower pricing plans, the carriers are all going to have to scramble to get content for their networks.

It looks like Cingular is going to get the Sopranos....
