Gullible weak minds often believe smear campaigns and scare campaigns. Which is why 49% of Americans used to believe Saddam was behind 9-11. Millions also believed Kerry did something wrong in Vietnam. That the tooth fairy is coming and that GW Bush was a combat fighter pilot.

Rove and his pals use these smear campaigns because they work. They've been used going back to Nazi Germany, to McCarthyism, even LBJ was famous for smear campaigns trying to make his straight opponents deny they were gay). No truth to any of the smear campaigns, but the immoral smear artists use them anyway when power and money are at stake.

Can you believe that in 2000, Rove's smears against McCain (the like GOP nominee in 2008) included that he was homosexual, a black whore monger, a traitor, a coward, helped the enemy, had lost his mind, was a crook and wasn't really a war hero? And it was the so-called "Christian" right that helped Bush-Rove spread these vile smears. But it worked. Bush won SC and the rest (along with many other smears, lies and cheating) is history.
