I suspect that the Winston & Strawn clients are still happy to have James Thompson looking out for their interests. Name one private sector individual, Republican or Democrat, better connected in the state of Illinois.

He certainly was asleep at the wheel as a Hollinger director, and he is going to pay a heavy price, both financially and to his reputation, for his neglect. As we have seen numerous times in recent years, the outside directors of large public companies are relatively clueless about what is going on at many of these companies. Most of them don't have enough time to devote to the task.

BTW, do you trust Rod ("Dream Small Dreams") Blagojevich? I would hope not. I won't even ask about Daley.

Thompson was one hell of a prosecutor. Fitzgerald is very good, but not yet in Thompson's class. It is too bad Thompson never ran for president. He might have been a good one. Those pesky rumors probably did him in.
