Whether or not the districts where gerrymandered to a strong degree they do cause election results which more accuratly express Texas's political leanings than the old districts.

Maybe. But it still doesn't make it reasonable to divide a mostly minority neighborhood that votes Democratic into three parts and then annex each part to a much larger white, GOP district to insure that the minority voice gets lost. Its not only unreasonable, it may be illegal.
