The FACT is the protections and exemptions the Administration wanted for CIA interrogators were inserted in the bill....Bush did not get all he wanted...but it is hardly accurate to call it "backpedalling"....unless you happen to be affected with BDS.....

We are "back pedalling" back to the 1970s when, during the Viet Nam War, the Pentagon and FBI spied on anti-war protestors and civil rights advocates.

Yes, that is a way of looking at it. He could have dug his heels in more, and that would have just made more problems and bad PR. So, I'll give him that. He is a stubborn man, and to agree to this must have cost him.

If his agreement snowballs into agreement by both sides on other contentious issues, that would be even better. I agree that there is way too much politicalization by both sides.
