I think you are right in this way. Religious people are inclined to seek and then find affirmation for their presuppositions/perspective/belief in their faith of choice. How about that? Leftists find those affirmations where they can, and call it a "tenet of faith", as do those on the right. Or perhaps each focuses primarily on those aspects of the faith, like stewardship of the planet, while explaining away or downplaying other more troublesome aspects. (Check out Jim Wallis, Call to Conversion, for the left position with critiqu of the right). In that way political and social liberals find liberal churches, because they'd feel sick at their stomachs with the other side.....and visa versa. This begs the question of post-modernism, and its critics, of relativism and objective truth. Objective truth??? Who dare utter such.......??????
