BIRD FLU PANIC WARNING
SUPERMARKETS could face empty shelves and panic buying if bird flu comes to the UK, an official report has warned.

A House of Lords committee said the Government needed to increase their planning to deal with a deadly pandemic.

They believe it would affect every area of life, including schools, transport and shops.

The report said: "We are alarmed at the risk of serious disruption to food supplies and at the lack of contact between the Government and major food retailers."

Baroness Finlay warned of "panic buying by the public in an unfocused and irrational way".

She said food suppliers needed to start planning now for a bird flu outbreak.
