Generally, I entirely agree with you.

However, the Hamas win over Fatah serves as a TREMENDOUS wake-up to the Palestinian "powers that be" there.

Hamas has been about to create grass-roots support by also providing a supplemental social security network, very much like faith based charities often do in rural parts of the US where government often overlooks the needs of the politically "contemptibles" (those who don't provide little reward politically (votes) for the expense (tax revenues).

The Palestinian government has essentially been a "Kleptocracy", whereas Hamas, militant and violent as they are, are generally seen as far less corruptible.

This is the same problem that Mubarak is facing in Egypt. And it will be the same problem Iraq may face if their current and future governments fail to clean up the profiteering and corruption that has ALWAYS existed here.
