Bearcatbob,

Funnily enough, I talked to my grandfather quite a bit too.

As a young kid he used to audit finished motor cycles for BSA, taking them around the track. He was accidently recruited into a really posh regiment in WW1. This meant he spent guard duty in Italy rather then fighting in the trenches in WW1. He made a clear point he never had much time for "old people". He died about 80 yrs old, but as a sixteen year old, and I would like to follow suit.

He worked his whole life as shop floor mechanic. Worked with lathes mainly and also as a tool maker. He joined the unions, but was quickly disillusioned, and became a hell bent tory towards the end of his life. I hope he is in heaven, I always liked to hear what he said.
