The sense of balance our democracy depends on has been sorely tested the last four years. Nice to hear someone standing up for American ideals over fear. Too many on this thread, and in the American Intelligentsia, people who really understand government, philosophy, economics, and our legal system (the usual suspects on this thread - I will not mention names) are too wrapped up in intellectual minutia and do not realize that perhaps some of our elected leaders at the very top, do not have a grasp of the breadth and depth of the issues that culminated from the birth of Western Civilization to where we are today. The reason for Condoleezza Rice's success in life is due entirely to the fact that she has an understanding of the history of Western Civilization and can bring it down (and spoon feed it) to a very low level of understanding. But she can't do it all by herself - if you get my drift.
