That is sad news. I know once somebody makes a reputation, a lot of folks go to work for them and increase their output beyond what once person could do. Sometimes there is a trap in that.

No doubt the amount of ghost writing out there is phenomenal. You need the name first in order to sell the damn things. Tom Clancy, for instance. I do not like his books that are co-written. They're just not up to the Hunt For Red October standard.

I haven't read all of Ambrose's books, but the ones I've read are outstanding. Same with David McCullough, although I don't think he's a conservative. The thing that I admire about both of them is that they make history interesting. When they do that, people will pay attention. If history is boring, then we just go on making the same old mistakes.

It's a shame that plagiarism is so rampant these days, because it's almost equally easy to attribute everything to its source. To me, that does not diminish the quality of the writing at all.

And, as you say, you can't get away with this. Every key stroke you and I put down on SI will live forever.
