I can't see how you could value being left alone, and not be aware that being followed is a violation of that. And I can't see how you can't see the difference. Not that I expect my way of seeing it to resonate you, but I would expect you to understand it. It seems so simple to me. It's sort of like the tree falling in the forest. (I know I'm going to regret that. I did the last time I used that metaphor.) The tree falls whether or not anyone observes it. I can go to the Safeway and buy calamata olives and cream cheese, which I did this morning (damn Rambi), whether anyone observes it or not. I do not see how it makes a difference. Especially if I don't notice the tail. Surely if I'm unaware of the tail you can see how it makes no difference at all.
