This information-age bit makes no sense to me.

Agree. I think, in addition, like Josh Marshall does, that if one includes in the "information age" stuff, the notion of multiple job changes in a lifetime, the decline if not the end of defined benefit pensions, and lack of job protections for the elderly, then the argument for keeping social security as it is becomes much more urgent.

Perhaps Marshall's observation will smoke a comment out of Bai. They know one another.
