"Such efforts always live on a knife edge on SI, however, because it is what it is."

The effort to discuss politics without getting seriously angry, and calling other people names, and making things ad hominem, is an effort on a knife edge at any time, and in any place. We all tend to think, quite naturally, that our own position is the only logical one- if it didn't seem correct, and the best possible thing to think, we wouldn't think it, would we? I don't always understand why other people think what they think, but I always try to remember that they believe they are correct, just as much as I believe I am correct, and even though I may not be able to follow their logic, or understand the emotional appeal of the view they espouse, I understand that it must be there, for them.
