Bush's eavesdropping was ILLEGAL, because he refused to notify any court before or after as is required. A president can order wiretapping for 72 hours without notifying a court, but then he must. Bush didn't. Bush is lying today about his wiretapping being legal. Every single senator and congressman I've heard speak about it, including threeRepublicans, are furious.

Bush is doing something very anti-American. He's ignoring the checks and balances set up by our founding fathers, acting like an imperial president or emperor. Without the consent of anyone. He's a rogue presdient out of control and he needes to be taught a very big lesson, for for his sake or the DEms, but for the sake of our democracy going forward.

Did Bush spy on journalists and Democratic opponents?
Very possibly. Otherwise, why would Bush avoid using the current very streamlined laws for approving wiretaps? Only because he didn't want anyone to know who he was tapping.

If he had actually been tapping terrorism suspects, the courts and congress would immediately give him leeway, but Bush did not tell anyone he was wiretapping US citizens, only a few foreigners with Al Qaida contacts. And he only reported that to a few congressmen three years later. According to Tom Daschle, he was not told about any of this. Illegally wiretapping US citizens? That's what far rightwing cheaters do.

As for Clinton, there is no evidnce he ever did anything illegal except lie about cheating on his wife. He was cleared of all charges in Watergate, including filegate and everything else. Clinton is no GW Bush when it comes to breaking the law. This is about Bush, not Clinton. Apples and oranges.

Presidents have a right to eavesdrop but everytime they need to seek the permission of secret courts. They are given a grace period of 72 hours to request a secret court after the act. That is how forgiving the law is for our President.

Did Bush care for all that? Heck know. And those bloody bastards thought that Clinton lied about his private lives and hence needed to be impeached. What a bloody fucked up country Bush's America is.
