There are no checks and balances when the executive branch approves its own programs with its own lawyers. That's why we have checks and balances- because its so obvious that no one branch can check itself.

I had to chuckle when I saw that Bush said he consulted widely with all the lawyers he appointed and who serve solely at his pleasure.

I guess that was supposed to convince somebody....I have no idea who.

Time will tell, TP. Check out Article 4 of the Constitution...WAR Powers... ALL Presidents have had the right, and in fact, duty, to do what is necessary during wartime. The Attorney General reminded of of this today as well. Also check out the October 2002 Congress authorized bill that was passed...Not only Iraq was included, but see the rest of the title and bill....WE ARE AT WAR, in case some forgot.
