Critical = faultfinding, censorious

critical: "exercising or involving careful judgment or judicious evaluation" (Webster's) as in "critical thinking"

Polite to a fault, Lucky, even though we come from different positions. I am critical of Bush because - speaking from my perspective - I have serious problems with his conduct, character and policies. I suppose he could have a road to Damascus conversion somewhere along the line and become a president that I wouldn't low-rank based on his five-year record, but the odds are pretty slim.

He has done what he has done and I am not going to agree with a great deal of it. As for potential future candidates, I want to start them all with a blank slate and see how they stake out their positions, react to controversies, etc.

I agree with neolib that you are mixing the administration and the Fed in a way that doesn't add up. But I was referring specifically to tax and SS changes that are totally outside the purview of the Fed.

As for the conservative crusade, looking at a cross-section of polls shows that a third of Americans will stay in that camp come hell or high water. But the camp isn't growing, and I don't think the themes that eked out 51% in November 2004 could succeed today.

Like always, we shall see.
