OT...08:27 Senate vote to open ANWR likely - FBR

Friedman Billings says that today or tomorrow, the Senate is likely to vote (narrowly) in favor of opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to oil and gas drilling. The firm believes that that ANWR support in the Senate reflects a fundamental shift among lawmakers to put energy security ahead of environmental protection for the first time in nearly 25 years, and there are many waves of energy policy ahead. In 2006, the firm expects to see multi-pollutant legislation affecting coal and power utilities, offshore drilling liberalizations in the eastern Gulf of Mexico, and new incentives proposed for coal-to-liquids and alternative (ethanol) transportation fuels as part of a refinery bill.
