Look at your pictures and see what big letter was on the tailrudder. My father-in-law's was a big H. I've seen others. I think that is a clue to the bomb group.

H, the 306th, was the first bomb group over Germany. If you've seen Twelve O'Clock High, the plot around Gregory Peck taking over the group was based on facts from the 306th.
