Maybe it's a stroke of luck that this guy is such an obvious non-smooth extremist. A different man - of the same persuasions, but more diplomatic - would have an easier time going nuclear.

I generally like all kinds of music, even foreign but if I had to listen to the wails of Arabic music all day I would probably go berserk. jdn

They'll do what young people have traditionally done whenever their freedom is curtailed: Ignore the rules and party on the sly. If the repressive laws the Mad Mullahs insist upon are rigidly enforced, they'll rebel.

I think Spain under Franco will be eventually provide the analogy. Severe repression followed by a flowering of creativity when the rules are eventually relaxed. I think we'll see a fairly progressive Iranian state once the nutjobs are out of the way. But it will take a long time. I hope that this process, which I think is inevitable, is not somehow thwarted by some very large mushroom clouds.
