I appreciate the many great comments on drive imaging. From what I read here, I'm going to avoid the Symantec stuff as the more I read, the more it seems that their programs hog resources and create more problems than are necessary.

Langa had recommended the PowerQuest Drive Image - Cheeky's comment seemed to indicate that Symantec had taken over this program.

I'm wondering if anyone has seen Langa's comments since. Does he still recommend DI?

Seems like the Acronis Program may be the way to go?

Thanks in advance per usual.

Multiple images is the way I go also. I don't bother with incremental builds at all. If everything appears to be running smoothly, I will make a new image every couple of weeks. I had about 10 complete images on my second hard drive that were taken at various times. I did recently dump the 4 or 5 middle images that were outdated, keeping the basic, post-Windows install + updates + a few programs which I consider my "base" installation. As I added back my normal programs I made images after running everything for a few days to make sure all the new programs were installed and running ok. I currently have 5 images stored. I'm sure Ghost as well as other programs allow for descriptions of the image but I find that to be a very handy feature of Acronis.

I think I will stick with Ghost 10 for now. There should always be a copy of Drive Image 7 around in the buy/sell papers or ebay.

And I took multiple images as well, store them on a second hard drive, then back up critical data to that drive and other media.

>>Sometimes you add programs and think everything is working fine only to find out later that something is screwed up.<<

That has happened to me many times, I dread the uninstall feature in Windows, it really should be renamed to uninstall most of an old program.
