Yes, unilateralist, though isolationism seems to be a common theme too, which is understandable when one considers the low proportion of Americans who have a passport. The USA is so big and multifunctional that being isolationist would still leave plenty to go on with, unlike for the likes of Albania/North Korea which are too small to have all the goodies.

Having the rest of the world as suppliers makes things much cheaper for Americans, but doesn't supply a lot that they couldn't otherwise enjoy. 2 billion Indians and Chinese working for low pay makes life very easy for wealthy Americans [meaning ALL Americans, including those below the "poverty line"].

I'll see if Google has numbers with passports. I've heard that before but don't know the details. I give up [can't find New Zealand passport numbers]. Here are USA passports issued gyford.com About 55% of Americans have passports. That's a higher proportion than I'd have guessed. That source seems a bit dodgy though.
