My point is, if we cut our military expenditures 50%, saving about $300 billion a year, we'd STILL be safe as houses! We'd be spending 5 times what China does, and STILL be the biggest military spender on Earth. We'd be spending twice as much as China, Russia and the entire "Axis of Evil" put together!

Fielding a military that you are pretty sure is going to lose against your likely opponent seems sort of pointless...
