Well those Americans who really are isolationist are almost all milder isolationists than that. You might think of it as being a step in the direction of Albania but in most cases just a small step and often only in one area (wanting to restrict trade, or impose heavy control on the border, or leave many international organizations and alliances).

And then of course many people are called isolationist any time they oppose some interaction with the rest of the world (from a specific treaty to a military operation). Frequently this is using the term inaccurately. Opposing the Kyoto treaty or the invasion of Iraq doesn't require you to be isolationist.
