control of the borders to prevent entry of terrorists

If your only goal was the prevent terrorists from arriving then you should not have an issue with Walmart hiring those who are not terrorists. I think there is more to your agenda than you are admitting.

If we are to control our borders and rationalize immigration we need four elements: legal means of utilizing foreign workers; ID validation to keep illegals from working; abolition of birthright citizenship; and a firm border barrier.

If we can't stop a million illegals and several hundred tons of illegal drugs coming in, then a few terrorists with weapons weighing a few hundred pounds at most can always get in, provided Bin Laden sends multiple teams and figures a few won't make it.

The idea of a national condom wrapped around our borders that will keep us sterile is a pipe dream. The borders and the beaches are just too long.

And if I wanted to nuke an American city, I would stage a private plane out of the Bahamas with a completely legitimate flight plan to Miami or Atlanta airport, send a Mayday, veer off and set the thing off over downtown at rush hour. How will you stop me if my plane and personnel aren't known to you already? Drug smugglers use that route every day.

Total security is a pipe dream just like totally controlled borders. Before you say would I rather do nothing, of course not. But we have to be realistic about what we can do and what we can achieve.
